The Search

The search for the flight was one of the largest and most expensive in aviation history

International Participation

The international search for the plane involved 26 countries equipped with boats, planes, submarines and more.

The search effort took place in multiple areas. The inital areas of search were along the South China Sea. The area was expanded to cover the Strait of Malacca after the Malaysian Military revealed more information.

However, days after the disappearance, more information came out about the flight. The search areas were adjusted again using satellite handshakes. The new search areas were very remote, sometimes taking days just to reach there.

The Debris

The search covered almost three-million square miles and, yet no sign of wreckage was ever found... until years later.

In 2015, beach cleaners in RĂ©union Island stumbled upon what turned out to be a right wing flaperon. The flaperon was examined and was later confirmed to belong to MH370.
